Your experience

You will have been developing answers to digital challenges for 2+ years within an agency. Naturally you will have good competency across of a wide range of front-end tools, technologies and techniques and know when to use them effectively to transform the outputs from our Creative Team into award winning, responsive HTML that the back end development team can wire up to create cutting edge sites for our clients. 

You will be able to demonstrate that you have an active interest in the latest UI web technologies and are keen to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible on the web.  Your experience will demonstrate that you are able to identify the correct tools for the job, apply visual flair where necessary and always ensure the highest quality of finish based on understanding your audience.

 

 

This role

Working as part of the wider studio team with UX and Visual designers and alongside our experienced CMS/Back End developers, you will transform the wireframes and visual designs into pixel perfect, award winning HTML that the Back End team can use as a basis to build the site within one of our CMS platforms.

 

In practice this means you will:

  • Develop UI solutions and applications to a high standard in line with company coding standards.
  • Be mindful of performance throughout the development process to produce optimised outputs to allow client to meet their marketing goals.
  • Work with account managers to deliver projects to budget, quality, time and client satisfaction standards.
  • Collaborate with the design team to ensure their designs are faithfully reproduced on the web, but also to provide suggestions on the art of the possible for future designs.
  • Collaborate with the design team to prototype and implement eye-catching animation and interactive design elements.
  • Work extensively with the back-end team to ensure best practice is adopted to facilitate speedy integration with the CMS used.
  • Research and understand new front end technologies and how they can be applied to our client work to contribute to the development of new products and services.
  • Attend occasional client meetings as necessary and project a positive company image.
  • Assist the sales process by providing operational and technical input that will help to win profitable business.
  • Comply with the existing business process, in particular task management and time reporting.

    Key Skills 

    We need a mix of the usual and unusual. You will; 

    • Have excellent understanding of responsive web design and detailed knowledge of web fundamentals such as HTML5, JavaScript (ES6+) and CSS3. 
    • Have a passion for visual design, an eye for detail and collaborate with designers to produce best in class experiences.
    • Be adept at core JavaScript debugging, web optimisation and browser optimisation. 
    • Have experience using CSS pre-processors like SASS or LESS and demonstrable understanding of modern methodologies such as BEM. 
    • Be familiar with common libraries such as jQuery, Lodash etc and JavaScript frameworks like React, Angular, VueJS etc. 
    • Be able to interpret the output from the usual design software packages and quickly transform it into high quality responsive HTML that follows the design standards laid down. 
    • Run a bullet-proof personal workflow, being self-critical to ensure that all aspects of build are completed thoroughly to a high standard (with minimal amends required) ready for transition into our back-end team. 
    • Understand a range of mobile, tablet and desktop browsers and devices, being familiar with their quirks and comfortable testing across the full range where required. 
    • Understand the scope you are working to, help plan, understand resourcing, estimate effort and ask for help when needed. 
    • Seek out opportunities to learn from other disciplines.
